Education Reformer Polly Thomas to seek Senate District 9 Seat


METAIRIE, LA . -- Career educator and reformer Polly Thomas today announced her decision to seek the Senate District 9 seat being vacated by longtime Senator Ken Hollis.
Thomas, a University of New Orleans professor and expert on education reform measures,was elected to the Jefferson Parish School Board in 1992 and re-elected without opposition in 1994 and 1998. She served as the board&amp;rsquo;s President and twice as Vice President. 
Thomas introduced the motion that created a strategic long-range planning committee for Jefferson Parish schools, and she introduced the motion that created the first charter school in Louisiana. Thomas, a Republican, has been active in party politics as an elected member of the Republican Parish Executive Committee and the State Central Committee. She serves as Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Louisiana.
